HANDMADE HAND-HARVESTED MAGIC ISLAND, SITKA, ALASKA WEDDING

Bethany and Jed’s wedding was essentially a weekend package of all of my favorite things about Sitka, Alaska (Sheet’ká). There was the group cold plunge into the ocean followed by a sauna. Bethany surprised us with handmade abalone shell earrings that she had dove for and collected herself. They had perfectly timed their wedding ceremony with the tides so that Bethany could walk from Magic Island across the land bridge that appears as the water lowers. It was cold! It was cloudy! It was so gorgeous.

As they spelled out in their vows, relationship to place is a huge part of Bethany and Jed’s foundation, and we all experienced it as we saw the food. They had harvested most of it themselves - the fish, the deer, all thoughtfully presented with gratitude and photos of the experience (look closely for the photo of Jed kayaking the deer to their island home). And of course, it wouldn’t be an Alaskan wedding without an incredible potluck!
