INTIMATE SAN DIEGO VERY STOKED BEACH MINIMONY

Of all the 2020 pandemic wedding reschedules, Megan and Derrik really fielded it all. Not only did they HAVE Covid right at the onslaught, locking down for almost a month in their apartment, their epic California mountain romp wedding was eventually postponed, and we spent all the minutes leading up to their micro-wedding-elopement changing plans. Mostly because their forest site caught on fire the week before we were supposed to stand there. Texts from Megan were like -

“So. The place we were gonna get married is now evacuated and they closed the National Forest. Can’t make this shit up. But now we’re gonna get married on the beach! And use our little boat as the “getaway car.” Probs getting married in XtraTufs. Buckle up.”

I know there were tough moments, but I never saw these two crack. It was an epic, wild, very stoked adventure, just as all my hangs with Megan have been. Though we’ve been friends since we were teenagers, the most time we have spent together has been in Mexico, Switzerland, and Alaska, on train / glacier / fondue / dehydration sickness / parade / sunset mountain adventures. Being thrown into a pandemic wedding together? Piece of cake. Getting to meet and know Derrik through all of the crazy was the cherry on top - heading straight to Sonic from the airport for my first Slush ever was the ultimate intro.

When I asked Megan to throw me some descriptors of their day, she included “miraculous.” There was for sure some cosmic guidance involved, but also some seriously hard work - these sweet peas stayed adaptable, bent kindly to the inevitable acts of slashing their original visions, and kept all their guests and vendors safe and happy. Constantly floored by my 2020 wedding warriors.
