I met sweet friend David almost….oh god…7 years ago (?!) while studying in Copenhagen, and kept in close touch as we both moved around post-grad, with David settling for a second in LA with his (incredible, transfixing, mesmerizing) video storytelling company, Woodwalk. David’s one of those people who you can go without communication with for months, but when you see him, the first or second thing out of his mouth is, “Kendall, girl…how is your HEART?”
We have feelings, lots of feelings. When David started talking about Ivy, I felt feelings about how many feelings he was feeling, and about how deep and complex they were. I finally got to meet Ivy, a tall, kind, smily, radiant pediatric BMT (bone marrow transplant) PA (jeepers) when David came up to Seattle to spend a block of time living with her and trying out the PNW. The dropped me at Cafe Flora to have dinner with my mom, and sat nearby. I brought my mom over to meet them as we were leaving, and they had their heads together, talking and talking straight into each other’s eyeballs and unaware of the hours passing, cups of water the only thing left on the table - they almost jumped at being brought out of their cozy little world to meet Debbie Jo. They seem to rest inside a shimmering shield together, safe, held, and electric.
I lost my marbles when they bought this cozy cottage in Matthews Beach, lost them again when they got engaged, threw up when they asked me to do their photos. Their home reminds me so much of cozy Copenhagen, and my sister and I are basically obsessed with it, so of course we had to start our shoot there. While other brainstorms for photoshoot inspiration included “waiting in line for the DMV” and “8th grade selfies,” we went to Bainbridge Island for the woods and the water. It was a true honor to be allowed into this shimmering shield of love for an afternoon, and I can’t wait for the majestic forest party wedding on the horizon. Love you guys.
